Protesting has been a way for people to be heard and to change the mind or direction of governments since the middle ages. From the Peasants’ Revolt to protesting against the Poll Tax, protesting is one way in which the people can be heard. Local bus services are essential to many, bus drivers and other transport workers have been given the title “key workers” since the start of the Covid 19 pandemic. Buses are the most-used form of public transport, carrying millions of people to school and work, shops, doctors’ surgeries and social activities. While they might have been running almost empty for the last 12 months as we emerge from the pandemic we must not forget their importance to society.

Council Tax bills dropping through your letterbox at this time of year is an inevitability of life. These bills have been on the rise as councils face reductions in funding from the government. At a time when many have lost their lost jobs and others face little, or no, rise in pay, increasing council tax hits the lowest earners the hardest. Council Tax is a regressive tax system that needs to be modernised or replaced altogether with something fairer for everyone.

Only a few weeks ago NASA’s Perseverance Rover touched down on Mars, 203 days after launch in Florida. The Rover is exploring the geology and history of Mars and looking for signs of ancient life on this red planet, we know little about. Billions have been spent on this new project, with costs expected to exceed $2.7 billion. Scientists hope to learn more about Mars and its history from this mission to Mars.
